Turi
Afrika was founded by Auntieclare Rezin out of the love and desire to
express the excellence of Afrika and its people throughout the world.
“Turi” a name borrowed from her grandmother seemed an
appropriate fit as her grandmother exemplified beauty, hard work,
commitment to excellence, and pride and value in being who she is.
Auntieclare
was born into a rich cultural community in Nakuru, Kenya. Throughout
her life growing up in a country as majestic as Kenya she was always
surrounded by artisans and craftsmen. They were the average people
making their daily living along the roadside selling their hand
carvings, jewelry and art. She never thought of this way of life as
unique as it was extremely common.
After
completing her schooling she took time to see her country and offer
service in communities throughout. She lived in various parts of the
country including Nairobi (the Capital City) and Mombasa (one of the
largest coastal communities in Kenya). Everywhere she stayed she was
met with african ingenuity and art.
She
left Kenya at the age of 19... Her exploration which lasted
approximately 4 years began in China where she stayed for 6 months,
then Macau Island, Haifa Israel (where she met her husband), Vancouver
Canada, and then to their new home in Los Angeles California.
One
common trait among people throughout her travels was an appreciation of
beauty and and a desire to express that beauty. That appreciation of
beauty, her love of the Afrikan continent, its people, and its art
inspired her to express that beauty by giving birth to Turi Afrika.
